Tinnitus
The term tinnitus derives from the Latin word ‘tinnire’ meaning ‘to ring’, and the term is used for any noise that people hear in their ear(s) or head that is not caused by an external source. The condition is more commonly known as ringing in the ears, although sufferers describe sounds ranging from ringing, buzzing, roaring, hissing and whistling.
When treating patients with tinnitus, equal consideration is given to all signs and symptoms at the first consultation. I have a special interest in tinnitus having suffered the problem myself after perforating an ear drum; I often use a combination of therapies such as acupuncture, ear candling and reiki.
When the body is balanced and less stressed, the tinnitus often subsides. In some cases after a number of treatments depending on the imbalance this may even clear completely. No two patients are treated the same, for example patient one may have loud rushing noises in both ears and severe headaches. Whilst patient two may have ringing in one ear and a stomach complaint. During each visit the patient’s condition will be logged, and the treatment may be changed as required.
People who have had no success with conventional methods of treatments for tinnitus may be surprised at acupuncture and reiki’s ability to reduce symptoms and make their lives more manageable.
