Cartouche is based on ancient Egyptian knowledge and should not be confused with tarot cards. The word cartouche refers to the ancient Egyptian oval or oblong figure in which is written the name of a royal person. Murray Hope used this name to refer to a system of 25 energies that were worked with by the priests of Ancient Egypt, which she presents in the form of a pack of cards. Nine cards relate to archetypal energies such as earth, water, air and fire and the remainder relate to universal energies such as the ankh, the pyramid and crook and flail. Each card can be used for meditation, divination, healing or talismanic purposes, when displayed in various layouts they can provide insight and answers to dreams, family or emotional problems, business, healing and health.

The Cartouche energies were used in Egypt as a way to connect with non physical dimensions, and subsequently to draw the energies down into the physical world. To be able to channel the energies represented by these cards it is necessary to be attuned by a Cartouche Master.
